1、 Reasons for Oxidation of Reverse Osmosis Membrane
1. Residual chlorine attack: Chlorine containing bactericides are added to the incoming water of the system, and after pre-treatment, they are not completely consumed and enter the reverse osmosis system.
2. Trace residual chlorine and heavy metal ions (such as Cu2+, Fe2+, and Al3+) in the incoming water undergo catalytic oxidation reactions in the polyamide desalination layer.
3. Oxidative disinfectants other than residual chlorine are used in the water treatment process, such as chlorine dioxide, potassium permanganate, ozone, hydrogen peroxide, etc. Residual oxidants entering the reverse osmosis system cause oxidative damage to the membrane.

2、 How to prevent oxidation from occurring?
1. Ensure that there is no residual chlorine in the reverse osmosis inlet water:
Install online ORP (oxidation-reduction potential) instruments or residual chlorine detection instruments in the reverse osmosis inlet pipeline, and ensure that there is no residual chlorine in the inlet water by adding reducing agents such as sodium bisulfite for real-time detection.
For wastewater sources that meet discharge standards and systems that use ultrafiltration as pretreatment, chlorination is generally used to control microbial contamination from ultrafiltration. In this operating condition, a combination of online instruments and regular offline measurements should be used to detect residual chlorine and ORP in water.
2. The reverse osmosis cleaning system should be separated from ultrafiltration cleaning to avoid residual chlorine leakage from the ultrafiltration system to the reverse osmosis system.
3. The sterilization process of reverse osmosis system should use non oxidizing fungicides such as isothiocyanine or DBNPA.

The main preventive measures for oxidation of reverse osmosis membranes are to pay attention to regular maintenance and cleaning, and to prevent oxidation phenomena in a timely manner. If oxidation occurs, the above measures can be taken to solve it.
